HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

As we welcome 2024, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and for being a member or follower of our chapter.

Our chapter has been going strong for 4 years.  We have grown and we have developed strong relationships with other professional organizations with the mutual goal of promoting the conversation of palliative and hospice care in the State of New Jersey.

Our chapter is an active member of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute, New Jersey State Nurses Association and we participate in events hosted by COYL (Conversation of Your Life ).

We are also proud to announce that we are now members of the Goals of Care Coalition of New Jersey.  We hope to be able to participate in the ongoing conversations about the newest legislature regarding access to home-based palliative care.

We are avid supporters of Dr. Jessica Zitter.  She is the author of the book Extreme Measures and the creator of Extremis, the 2016 Netflix Special that explored death and dying in our country.  Dr. Zitter created a documentary “Caregiver: A Love Story” that explores the relationships between caregivers and their loved ones.  In 2022 we hosted a viewing of the film and a Fireside Chat with Dr. Zitter.

For 2024 we are planning a host of educational programs ( most offer free CEs) and a few social events:

  • We are planning to have an encore presentation of “Caregiver: A Love Story”.
  • We will be hosting a Certification Review Course,
  • Case Study Presentations
  • Fundraising and Membership drives, and a
  • Member Appreciation event at the end of the year.

We will also be creating a new logo and changing our name from Northern New Jersey HPNA to New Jersey HPNA in order to be inclusive of all of New Jersey.  We are the only HPNA chapter in the state and we represent members from all counties.

As we continue to grow and engage our members, we encourage you to participate in our educational events and share your ideas and talents on our various committees.  You can contact us via our Nursing Network site, Facebook, or email me directly at leslimiller@yahoo.com

As the New Jersey HPNA Chapter, let’s continue to be strong, influential, and innovative.  After all, we are representing our profession and showcasing all that we can do.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Lesli Miller MSN, APN, BCEN, ACHPN, President NNJHPNA
